Liepnitzsee

Welcome August!

I can’t believe we are in this month already…time really does fly! It seems like we arrived in Berlin yesterday…but it’s been almost 7 months! 😮  There is so much more to discover in this amazing city, one year just isn’t enough.

Since it’s summer and this week here in Berlin is promising to be hot, I decided to post about a really cool lake that we went last month. Summer here is really different from the one I am used to in Brazil…of course! As a tropical country it’s more hot than cold, and in São Paulo (where I lived) you can count on your fingers the days that are really cold in the winter. The same happens here in Berlin, but in the exact opposite, you can count the days that exceed 30ºC in the summer…hahahaha Those are the days that you enjoy by going at lakes and public pools (there are a lot of public pools in Berlin).

I never had experienced summer like this, in Brazil I usually went to the beach, but not as frequently as I would like, because one: it was far and we didn’t have a car; two: Rafael isn’t a big fan of beaches; three: it can be too much expensive when it’s the high season. Differently from where I lived, Berlin is surrounded with lakes, you just have to pick one, grab your bikini, towels, drinks, snacks and go!

Liepnitzsee is a little far away from Berlin, it’s located in a city nearby, we took about 1h30 – 2 hours to get there, and it was totally worth it!! We took a train at Gesundbrunnen station to Bernau bei Berlin, and when we arrived, we had to wait half an hour for the bus that dropped us close to the lake. Then we walked 20 – 30 minutes through the forest to get there. Reading this probably doesn’t seem that fun, but I tell you that it was! We saw a lot of people going by bike, there is a lot of space in the train for bikes, and once you arrive at the city, you don’t need to wait for the bus…just pedal to the lake!

I am really surprised by how much people here are prepared to go to the lake, they pack big meals, little tents, inflatable float rafts and many more! Which is my goal to have if we stay here! hahaha  One thing that is really cool about this lake is a little island in the center where you can camp, we didn’t go there because we stayed on the other side of the ferry, but you can easily go if you have a raft, canoe…or if you are a good swimmer be my guest…ha!

As you can see we enjoyed this day very much, and I thank God for Rafael saying that he had fun at the lake and would be glad to go again….YES! hahaha
