I was totally lost during this week, I thought Tuesday was Monday and Wednesday was Thursday…haha Also, today was the last day of our german integration course, after 7 months I can say that I improved a lot! I’ll write more about that next week 😉

Here are my 5 favourite things of this week:

1- Sea World announced this week that they will end the orca shows in San Diego, for me as a biologist and as a person who cares about animal welfare this was a win, I hope that they will also stop it in the other parks as well;

2- I admit that I’m a Friends addict, don’t know exactly how many times I’ve watched the show, for me it will never get old, I’ll laugh over the same jokes for ever! Although my favourite character is Joey, Ross sometimes makes me laugh hard. “The one with Ross’s tan” is one of my top ten favs! You can see here 31 Friends jokes that never get old;

3- The Barbie evolution across 56 years, 1971 was my favourite! But during my childhood my Barbie’s style were the 1994 and 95;

4- This amazing audio of Freddie Mercury & David Bowie singing Under Pressure A capella gave me goosebumps!

5- How would you behave if your 18 year old self interviewed your future self? Peter Emshwiller had that idea when we was a teen, and after 38 years he wants to finish that project. Here is a video sample of “Later that same life“….curious and funny!

Hope you have an amazing weekend!

This week was a slow one, Fall break ended last Friday, so that means we had German course this week. We attended class in the mornings (german language seems to be getting harder…and harder 😦 ), and spent the afternoons at home…same old, same old. But it’s good to have a calm week sometimes 😉

Here are my 5 weekly favourites:

1- Rafael and I went to the movies to watch Alice in Wonderland on our first date night, back in 2010 😮 This week was released a new trailer of Alice in Wonderland 2: Through the Looking Glass, can’t wait to see it! Who doesn’t like Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, am I right?! hahaha;

2- Honest “Monopoly”cards that are almost too relatable;

3- I’ve always wanted to travel to Barcelona and see Gaudí’s work, now, after 133 years later, the Sagrada Família has entered its final stage of construction;

4- After reading Anthony Bourdain’s 6 punishable-by-death sushi don’ts, I’d be dead right now! haha;

5- I know that Halloween already came and went, but sorry for being obsessed with my awesome Mexican sugar skull!

Have a lovely and blessed weekend!

Be Happy 😀

Sanssouci Part I

IMG_6469

We visited the parks and palaces of Sanssouci in August when Rafael’s friend from Brazil, Lucas, was here. Sanssouci is located in the charming city of Potsdam, today it’s the capital city of the German Federal state of Brandenburg, but until 1918 it was the residence of the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser. Before Sanssouci was built, the royal family’s residence was situtated in Berlin, at the Charllotenburg Palace. King Frederick, the Great, ordered the construction in Potsdam because he wanted a residence where he could live sans souci (French for “without worries”). Could I please live a life with no worries just like that?! hahaha

Sansoucci is also the largest world heritage site in Germany, it’s divided in several buildings, one more gorgeous than the other. That why I had to divide this post, there are so many beautiful pictures, I just need to share them all…hahaha. It’s really easy to go to Potsdam from Berlin, we took the S7 train and we arrived at the Postdam main train station around 40 minutes later. From there we took a city bus towards Sanssouci, but you can also rent a bike if you please. We didn’t get to see the city itself, because we spent the whole day visiting the complex, but I think it’s a very good idea to spend a weekend there.

Sanssouci is probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited, it’s amazing how they used to build great palaces back then, the architecture is really beautiful!

Halloween in Berlin

IMG_1682

We discovered that Halloween is becoming a new tradition here in Berlin, there aren’t decorations on the houses or streets, but the young people and kids are enjoying the idea of getting dressed upped and going to parties. We got invited to a party at our landlord’s house, Sebastian, in Kreuzberg. Costumes were mandatory, and we were more than pleased to oblige! I love Halloween, that may sound a bit strange coming from a Brazilian, specially because in Brazil it’s also becoming a new tradition. When I was a child, I spent 5 years living in the USA, and I’d always trick or treated…I have a lot of fun memories about that time! All that excitement reminisced these past few days and I actually got anxious to go to the party…hahaha

Almost feeling good as new after the terrible cold I caught last week. Rafael took great care of me as usual (truth is, I love being spoiled by him sometimes…hahaha). Looking forward to the weekend, tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny day here in Berlin….YAY!!!

Here are my 5 Weekly Favs:

1- My favourite Brazilian rock psychedelic band, Os Mutantes, is getting a new photography book (A Hora e a Vez), with unpublished pictures taken during the period of 1969 – 1974 by Leila Lisboa….Oh how I love the 70’s!

2- Nerd alert! hahaha..even more excited to watch “Star Wars – The Force Awakens” after its new trailer 😀

3- Amazed by these artsy embroidered pieces custom made by Maricor/Maricar;

4- Rafael made this very cool illustration of Isaac Asimov as gift a for one of our friends, which he loved of course! You can check out more of his illustrations on Pinterest;

5- Gustav Klimt is one of my favourites artists, this week I discovered that the photographer Inge Prader recreated Klimt’s most iconic work with real-life models…the result is stunning!

Couscous Salad with Lamb Chops

IMG_1578

A few days ago, I posted on Instagram (follow me @brunaiglezias) our Sunday dinner. Rafael loves dishes with couscous, basically because he loves arabic food, on the other hand I am not quite used to it. So I began my search on the internet to find a meal that would please us both. I came across this recipe that had everything I liked, roasted vegetables, chickpeas and arugula…plus couscous! That  was a winner, I thought! But Rafa usually isn’t very fond os dishes without a protein, he always says that after eating only salad, 15 minutes later he is hungry again…hahaha

TGIF! For me this week passed really slow, sometimes I get irritated over dumb things and that usually kills the good mood in the house, if there’s one thing I need to learn to control, it’s my temper. Also, everyone at my german class is sick, and for my bad luck I caught it too, luckily Rafael didn’t. At least we get to stay home for the next two weeks, it’s Autumn break around here…yay!

Here are my 5 weekly favourites:

1- Best wildlife photograph by National Geographic, you can see here 11 of the year’s best wildlife photographs;

2- Mademoiselle Privé, a Chanel’s exhibition is taking place at Saatchi Gallery in London. It’s a journey through the origins of Chanel’s creations capturing the charismatic personality and irreverent spirit of Mademoiselle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld. Wish I was there to visit!

3- The chicest movie posters of all time, I fell in love with that Black Swan’s poster;

4- Popular brands logos brilliantly mashed up with famous paintings;

5- How beautiful are these embroidered piece of nature by Oly Shamrik?!

Have a wonderful weekend!

And if you are in Germany, Schönes Ferien!
