With summer knocking on our door, there are endless events here in Berlin. Every weekend there is so much things to do, and so little time to enjoy everything around, it’s like a I almost have to plan my weekend…hahaha Good thing that the sun goes down around 10 o’clock at night, I love the long days around here, I feel more excited to things.

Karneval der Kulturen
We had so much fun on the weekend here in Berlin, actually it was a long weekend, yesterday was also a holiday here due to Pentecost. Every year during this long weekend, they celebrate Karneval der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures). On Sunday, there was a huge parade at Kreuzberg’s neighbourhood, about 80 countries participates with caravans celebrating the cultural diversity of Berlin with their traditional costumes and ritual dances.
1st of May
Here’s a little bit of what we did yesterday here in Berlin! The 1st of May here is a really big deal! We went to Kreuzberg, a fantastic neighbourhood here in Berlin, with our Italian friend Maurizio. There was this huge open party in the street, with different types of music and food in every corner. We arrived there around one o’clock in the afternoon, and there was already many people there, so we walked around the streets, ate something here and there, and of course appreciated the sun when he wasn’t hiding behind the clouds…ˆˆ
Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
I am so happy that the weather is getting warmer around here! The grass is greener, trees have new blossoms, new animals are arriving….don’t you just love the rebirth of nature?! Everything is wonderful!!
With all of that going on, you have no reason to stay at home, just walking around in this amazing city in the sun makes me so happy! There’s always something new to discover. We went for a walk in the lovely Charlottenburg’s neighbourhood, home of countless stores, the Zoo, theatres, museums and the Protestant Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. It’s almost impossible to not be drawn to the church, you’re walking down the street and suddenly you see this church that is almost entirely destroyed. Now, if you are curious like me, you want to go there and discover about its history. The minute you enter the hall, you see beautiful mosaics all around and can imagine how beautiful is was before being destroyed.
Museum für Naturkunde
I don’t know if I’ve already told that I have a major in Biology, and during my college time I used to work at a NGO that was specialised in the conservation of neotropical wild cats and also had a rehabilitation center for other wild animals. By that, I don’t even have to say what a huge sucker am I for animals….I LOVE them!
Vogelsang – The Lost City
Berlin and its surrounding have some places that are hidden and forgotten. Since so many things have happened around here since the war, they can be quite a historical treasure. We weren’t familiarised with them since a couple of weeks back…we met an Italian guy, Maurizio, at our German language class and he invited us to go with him and his other Italian friend, who is a Historian, to go visit the lost city of Vogelsang. I’ve never in my life been to places like these, and I was a little afraid of what I could run into there…but gladly it all went well and became a super interesting trip!
Cafe Einstein Stammhaus
We are very lucky to have such a nice landlord, based on my past experiences, he is one of the best! When we moved in the apartment, he wrote us an e-mail about the nice and cool things to do around the neighborhood. We’ve gone to street markets, we went to eat burgers at a place as he describes “the best burger” and let me tell you, he wasn’t wrong about that! One time we asked him were could we eat a good ol’ Apfelstrudel, and I think he didn’t even think twice before saying: “At Cafe Einstein Stammhaus“. So these days Rafael and I were walking around Berlin, I got a little hungry and remembered the Cafe, it’s not very close to our home, but it was totally worth it 🙂
Boyfriend’s Sweater
If there is one thing I am not, is photogenic. When I was a teenager, I hated being photographed, honestly, I have 3 to 5 pictures from age 13 – 18. I was not very found of my looks that time, and I was really, really shy. Still am, but I have improved a lot! I see the teens nowadays taking hundred of pictures of themselves, some bad, some really good, but let’s face it, with a camera on a phone things can get much easier for them. Not for me, because I still can’t take a good ol’ selfie, I’m horrible at it! hahahhahah Don’t know how to position the camera, work with my hand, find a good angle……Not very different in front of a camera, I never know what to do, and I also feel kinda shy…don’t know why…how bizarre! hahahaha
Flea Market
Yesterday we went to this amazing Flea Market near Tiergarten park, located at central Berlin. I confess that I have a big crush on flea markets, you can find so much cool stuff there and I always catch myself thinking on the history of those particular items. This flea market is really big compared to the one’s I used to go in Brazil, theres a wide variety of silverware, colorful glasses and porcelain, which I would be very, very happy to purchase…haha! What scared me a little bit was the amount of fur coats, scarves and hats, I am really against that… But besides that, we had a really great time, and if we end up staying here in Berlin (which I wish very much that we do), I could easily furniture our entire home there!

Saturday with Sun and Fun
Hallo!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and Valentine’s Day!
We had a great sunny weekend here in Berlin, and of course we chose to enjoy it by exploring the city. First we went to Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg to visit the East Side Gallery (I’ll do a special post about it later), and for my amusement there was a lot of people there, some admiring the art and a some appreciating the sun along the Spree with music in the backround. I just love days like these here in Berlin, it’s nice to appreciate the warm sun on a cold day.
